The application period for federal Direct PLUS Loans is now open for U-M graduate students and parents of dependent undergraduates seeking PLUS Loan funding for the 2016-17 academic year.
Direct PLUS Loans are part of the federal Direct Loan Program and are used to help pay for college expenses not covered by other forms of financial aid. Unlike other federal student loans, PLUS Loans are not awarded when you apply for aid, although completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is required. Graduate students and parents of undergraduates apply separately each year for the PLUS Loan if they need additional funds to cover college costs.
To apply, visit studentloans.gov and select “Apply for a PLUS Loan” under either Parent Borrower or the Graduate/Professional Students section using your U.S. Department of Education FSA ID (if you need an FSA ID, visit fsaid.ed.gov). Follow the steps to complete the application and credit check. In the “School Name” section, select University of Michigan-Ann Arbor to ensure that we receive your application. The loan request must be completed in a single online session.
