Tips for receiving your Winter Term financial aidDecember 7, 2015
Apply for aid: The 2016-17 FAFSA is now availableJanuary 1, 2016
Congratulations to students who were admitted to the University of Michigan for Fall 2016! We encourage all students to apply for financial aid by beginning with these steps:
- The 2016-17 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is available Jan. 1, 2016. Visit www.fafsa.gov anytime after Jan. 1 to complete this application electronically and be sure to include School Code 002325 to have the results sent to the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor.
- Complete the 2016-17 CSS/PROFILE application at http://student.collegeboard.org/profile. U-M requires this form for first-time students entering the University. It helps us determine whether you qualify for need-based University grants. Use U-M’s CSS Code 1839 so that your information routes to us. The PROFILE costs $25. Please contact the Office of Financial Aid to request a PROFILE fee waiver if you are financially unable to submit this application and are not offered the automatic fee waiver from the College Board. (You must request this waiver before you submit the PROFILE.)
We must have your application documents no later than April 30, 2016 in order for you to be considered for financial aid, so be sure to file early in case there are issues to resolve with your aid application.
More detailed information about the aid application process can be found here: www.finaid.umich.edu/NewStudent. (Note: If you will be classified as an independent undergraduate student, you need only complete the FAFSA. The definition of an independent student can be found here.)
