Application for 2018 Spring/Summer financial aid now available

Bicyling around "The Cube", Regents Plaza, U-M

Are you a continuing student planning to attend U-M for the 2018 Spring/Summer terms? Materials are now available allowing students to apply financial aid.

Unless you are studying abroad, complete a Request for Financial Aid Form, available online here. Aid this year will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, with awards made as applications are received. Also, if you have not already submitted a 2017-18 FAFSA, do so immediately at fafsa.ed.gov.

This is a change in the way we have awarded aid in the past for Spring/Summer terms. So, don’t delay and apply for aid now.

The Office of Financial Aid will determine your aid eligibility based on full-time enrollment; you need not notify us of planned changes in your attendance. Most students will receive an award notice covering the full 16 weeks of potential enrollment, the Spring and Summer mini terms. Students who do not enroll for Spring term will later have their awards revised if they enroll for Summer Term.

Other information you may need when applying for Spring/Summer aid:

  • Addendum forms are required if you are in a Social Work practicum or applying for a Spring/Summer federal TEACH Grant. Complete the necessary forms and submit them to the Office of Financial Aid, in addition to filling out the Request for Financial Aid form. Find the forms here.
  • Students studying abroad will complete a 2018 Spring/Summer Study Abroad Financial Aid Request form and not the RFF.  Forms and information about studying abroad here.
  • Students who have young, dependent children in child care may be eligible for the U-M Child Care Subsidy Program, which helps students with the cost of licensed child care. Specific criteria is required to be eligible and students must complete a 2017-18 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and an application for the subsidy. Forms and information about the Child Care Subsidy here.
  • Although we are processing aid awards as students apply this year, we do have final deadlines after which we will no longer accept applications. They are June 1, 2018 for Spring Term and the 16-week Spring-Summer Term and July 31, 2018 for Summer Term.

The first payments of financial aid will be available to students on April 27, 2018 for Spring Term, 16-week Spring/Summer terms and on June 25, 2018 for Summer Term.
