2025-2026 Fall/Winter Aid and Latest Info on Financial Aid Notices

Continuing students who want to apply for and receive financial aid for next year should not submit a new CSS Profile but must submit a 2025-2026 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Be sure to use UM-Ann Arbor Federal School Code 002325 and submit by May 1. If you wait to complete your FAFSA, you may not be eligible for some types of grant assistance.

Financial aid notification will likely begin in mid-July for returning U-M students with a completed 2025-2026 FAFSA. Students are notified in the order in which they applied for aid.

When to apply:

  • We encourage you to apply now. You must complete your FAFSA by the deadline. We cannot notify you of the additional required documents until we have received your FAFSA, so please do not wait. Add UM-Ann Arbor to your FAFSA using our Federal School Code 002325.
  • Allow three to four weeks for processing of your application and identification of any missing/inaccurate information. You can check your FAFSA Submission Summary from the U.S. Department of Education to see if corrections are needed.
  • If you complete your FAFSA after the deadline, you will still be considered for aid, but funding may be limited, and you may not be offered grants or Federal Work-Study.

Tips on applying:

  • Read our application instructions. Do not submit a CSS Profile if you have completed one in the past.
  • Use UM-Ann Arbor’s Federal School Code (002325). Note that there are multiple school codes identifying different campuses in the University of Michigan system. It may not be immediately obvious which one you are choosing because of the way the names are listed. We encourage you to search for the Ann Arbor campus using our code (002325) and add it to your FAFSA. Pro tip for Michigan residents: U-M must be the first code listed for state scholarships to be directed correctly. Remove any University of Michigan school codes attached to your FAFSA that are not 002325 (E00398 for UMMS students) to ensure your aid application is directed to the correct campus.
  • The federal processor will reject a FAFSA if information is missing or incorrect. If your FAFSA is rejected, your application will not be processed or considered complete, and you must resolve the problem before the deadline. Apply soon!

Did you know?

  • Moving off campus won’t affect the amount of financial aid you receive. You will continue to receive a housing budget based on a weighted average cost in U-M housing with a basic unlimited meal plan, but off-campus students must pay rent directly to landlords. Plan accordingly!
  • Students can give parents access to financial aid information in Wolverine Access for aid newsletters and to view needed documents and student notices. Select “Parent/Family Authorization” under the Student Center to set up access.
  • Applications for Federal Direct PLUS loans for parents of dependent students and graduate students should be completed in March for spring/summer PLUS loans; they will also be available beginning in mid-April for fall/winter terms.

Upcoming Deadlines

Spring/Summer

Spring/summer financial aid is determined after you are registered. If you intend to enroll during spring/summer, be sure to register as early as possible.

New students entering U-M in spring/summer should visit the OFA webpage for deadlines.

Go Blue Guarantee for U-M Tuition

The U-M Go Blue Guarantee provides free tuition for Michigan residents on the Ann Arbor campus with family incomes of $125,000 or less and assets below $125,000 (effective fall 2025); the current thresholds are family incomes of $75,000 or less and assets below $75,000.

For eligible students, financial aid packages for fall and winter terms will include a combination of scholarships and grants totaling at least the cost of tuition and mandatory university fees (mandatory fees do not include housing and meals, books and supplies, and personal items) assessed each semester for up to four years for students who meet the income and asset criteria and who are:

  • Michigan residents who are eligible for in-state tuition rates
  • Eligible to apply for financial aid
  • Pursuing their first bachelor’s degree

Some students may see a “Go Blue Grant” item if there is a gap between grants and scholarships and tuition/fee costs. To qualify for the Go Blue Guarantee each year, students must apply for financial aid by our deadline. Students who do not meet this deadline are not eligible for the guarantee. Full-time enrollment is required to receive the Go Blue Guarantee.
