The U-M Office of Financial Aid has a variety of presentations to help students and families prepare to tackle the college application cycle. These include a three-part “Paying for College” series designed to give high school seniors an overview of what to expect when they plan for college. AVAILABLE PROGRAMS

Basic Financial Aid Presentation: Targeted to juniors and first-semester seniors, this session offers an overview of the financial aid process, discusses types of aid and focuses on scholarships and helping students to apply for them. Offered anytime and runs 30-60 minutes (varies with Q & A).

College Choices & College Costs: This presentation helps students review college costs and provides vital information for students and families to consider when finalizing college choices. This hands-on workshop allows attendees to review financial aid case studies. Runs 30 minutes to 1.5 hours (varies with Q & A).

FAFSA Workshop: An in-depth look at the Free Application for Federal Student Aid – the application students fill out annually to receive federal assistance for college. Bring your documents and get one-on-one help completing the FAFSA. Runs 1.5 to 2 hours.

Financial Literacy & Personal Finance: This is an interactive program to create awareness as students prepare to attend college and live on their own. We cover Needs vs. Wants, The ABCs of Credit, How to Budget and other critical information for students to know. Offered anytime; runs 1 to 1.5 hours.

It’s Never Too Early to Plan for College (9th & 10th graders): This early awareness presentation provides details about what students and their families can do during high school to ensure that they are prepared for college. Offered anytime; runs 30-60 minutes.

Understanding Your Aid Award: This presentation for graduating high school seniors details how to read an award notice, explains award types and highlights the responsibilities of maintaining financial aid. We also explain steps to take if a student’s circumstances change. Runs 1-2 hours.

Financial Aid Night: This presentation is a full overview of the financial aid process including: FAFSA completion, types of financial aid, family financial aid planning during your senior year of high school. Runs 1.5 hours.
