Financially Savvy: First Steps in Financial Education
This self-paced, online mini course through Michigan Online is designed to introduce new students to essential financial management skills. There are no grades or credits for this course, but students will be empowered to take control of their finances and thrive personally and academically at U-M.
ALA 110: Financially Savvy From the Start
This fall and winter course provides a limited introduction to financial education and prepares students for further learning in ALA 115 and ALA 215.
Financially Savvy Student (ALA 115 or BA 115 for Ross School of Business students)
The Financially Savvy Student is a class offered through the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts at the University of Michigan for undergraduate students. This one-credit full-term course is designed to teach students the basics of personal finance, why financial matters are important, and impart a sense of history about this topic. Financial aid basics are also included in the course syllabus. It is taught by Office of Financial Aid professionals.
Financially Savvy for the Future (ALA 215)
Financially Savvy for the Future is an advanced-level course that builds on the foundational knowledge from Financially Savvy Student (ALA 115). It is designed for students eager to take their financial literacy to the next level. In this course, you will use personalized activities, critical thinking, and real-world examples to explore more advanced aspects of financial education, such as investing, retirement planning, making large purchases, like buying a home or a car, and strategic debt management. You’ll develop skills to make informed financial decisions as you transition into graduate school or your post-graduation career. This course will give you the knowledge and empowerment to navigate today’s economic landscape as you prepare for graduation and attending graduate school or moving into your career.
