Application Requirements

Complete the current FAFSA if you have not already done so.

  • If you had not previously completed a FAFSA, please do so immediately and watch your U-M email carefully for any potential requests for additional information.
  • Take note that after June 30, the FAFSA for the current aid year will no longer be available.
  • If you are unsure if your FAFSA is complete, check Wolverine Access > Student Service Center > Financial Aid > Select current Aid Year > My FA Status. If you need to submit additional information, it will be noted on this tab and on the Documents/Review tab.

Additional information for:

  • Entering Undergraduate Students
  • Summer Bridge Scholars Program

Note: Continuing students do not need to complete an additional request for spring/summer aid. Your enrollment in the spring/summer term is all that is needed to receive your eligibility for financial aid. Students generally receive an official spring/summer aid notice within one to two weeks of registering for the spring and/or summer term. Aid notices are only issued if enrollment is at least half-time.

Enrollment in Single Half-term vs. Enrollment in Both Half-terms or the Full 16-Week Term

The spring/summer enrollment period is unique because it offers the option of attending a spring half-term, a summer half-term, and/or the full 16 week spring/summer semester. For financial aid purposes, you must enroll in the minimum number of credit hours (indicated below) in order to establish eligibility for financial aid. However, your pattern of enrollment will determine your ultimate eligibility for assistance because it defines your eligible costs. Students who enroll in a single half-term will have a lower Cost of Attendance than a student who enrolls in both half-terms or the full 16-week term and this could change your aid eligibility.

To better understand your eligibility, we are providing the following chart:

Planned Enrollment Minimum Required Credit Hours Cost of Attendance Will Cover Financial Aid
Enrolled in a Single Half-Term, Will NOT Enroll in Both Spring and Summer Half-Terms

6 credit hours for undergraduate students

4 credit hours for graduate students

Tuition, Fees, Books, Supplies, Housing, Food, and Personal Miscellaneous for the single half-term only.

Aid will be calculated based upon the single half-term costs.

Aid will be prorated if you enroll for less than 12 credit hours in the single half-term of enrollment.

Enrolled in Both Half-Terms or Full 16-Week Term

Must achieve same total minimum as noted above.

May split enrollment evenly or unevenly across both semesters

Tuition, Fees, Books, Supplies, Housing, Food, and Personal Miscellaneous for both semesters of enrollment

Aid will be calculated based upon costs for the full 16-week enrollment period

Aid will be prorated if you enroll for less than 12 credit hours between the two half-terms or in the full 16-week term.

Enrollment Monitoring

Top

Your enrollment will be monitored throughout the spring and summer. Changes in your course credit hour load, or your overall enrollment decision, may impact your financial aid eligibility. The Office of Financial Aid will make every effort to notify you of changes in a timely manner, however this may not always be possible. We encourage you to contact the office if you are considering an enrollment change before dropping a course(s) so you can make an informed decision regarding enrollment and aid.
